Used '06, New '07 or Order '08? Help
Well, after reading and trolling for awhile, I want an A3 DSG with sport or S-Line. Great forum by the way.
I have found a used '06 with 27,000 miles that has audio, cold weather, open sky, and xenon's. I can get it for about $21,000.
I also found a local dealer with a new '07 with cold weather, open sky, and tech. MSRP is $33,040. Edmunds says invoice is about $30,600. I know of no dealer cash on A3's but they do have 4.9% for 60 months. Have not talked price yet with the dealer.
I am considering just ordering an '08 since you can get power driver's seat with S-Line and I feel a power seat is a plus. Someone posted on here that price increases for '08's were significant, but at least I could get exactly what I wanted.
Money is a factor. So is there some compelling reason not to get the '06? Was reliability an issue since the A3 was in its first year? Does the '06 with sport not have the same facias you get with the S-line? I am trying to justify getting an '07 or '08 but $8,000+ seems like a lot.

'06 with sport doesn't have the nice front and rear S Line bumpers, but that's about the only diff. There have been more service issues with '06 than '07s, as Audi has had ongoing efforts to correct glitches. Most frequent have been wheel bearings and AC compressors.
There are incentives on '07s now in many areas, about $1500 - several members have reported deals $1000 - $1500 below invoice. If you can't get this, then I think you'd be better off ordering an '08 at about $600 over invoice - most dealers will do this. They don't have to floor plan the car, you get exactly what you want, and the '08 will be worth about 2k more than the '07 for quite awhile.
The used '06? If that's where your budget is , do it. That's a very fair deal, especially if you like the color and equipment.

I agree with hesaputz you could very possibly get a great deal on an 07 I bought mine about three months ago and got it at invoice. But what it boils down to is what you feel the most comfortable doing, either spending the extra dough on the newer year or saving and going with the 07 or 08. I am sure you will make the right choice, because anyway you look at it you are getting an audi!!!!! Good Luck
i was in the same position as you, in the end i got a lightly used 2006 A3 Certified Pre Owned with a bit over 6,000 miles on it, Why?
1. Free Service to 45,000mi
2. Certified Pre-Owned means +2 year, 100,000k mile warranty.
3. Bi-xenons, Sportpackage, Opensky, DSG, Ocean Blue Metallic
A similarly equipped 07 with +2 year warranty and Audi advantage pacakge MSRP would have be a staggering 37,000$, Invoice prob around 34500,-1500 for factory cash (if you can get it), + tax and licenses and ur still looking at 35,000$.
I got mines for 28,000 OTD and its as good as new. I would not have bought it if not for the free service and the CPO extra warranty.

The most negotiating room you have with a dealer is for service benfits and additional miles. Harder to drop the price of a new car, but easier to work deals in the service department. Go with the 06'
Thanks for all the good info. It sounds like the facias and badging are not a big deal.
And I had no idea about the factory cash. Maybe I could get the '07 for $29,000?
The '06 is not certified (private seller) and the AC compressor and wheel bearing worries me but it would be covered by warranty.
This is a tough call.

Is 27,000 miles a lot for an '06 car? This shows my bias against used cars (mainly because of the lemon market effect), but I'd be inclined to get a new one rather than a 1 year old car with 27,000 miles on it from an individual (so that it's not certified or anything).
Good luck!

I'd go to Audi with the serial #, and pull up the service history. See if it's had I3 and I5 updates, and any listed service issues. If it needs updates, maybe you could get the current owner to schedule a service, and get a reassuring checkout from Audi at the same time.
Buying the used '06 means that someone else paid $9000 for 2 model years and 21,000 miles. If you get the same use and time out of it, it'll probably cost you $6000. Not too shabby.

Could I not do get the updates done myself after I buy it?
