Default When should I get my cam belt changed?

Hi all, I recently bought an '06 A3 2.0tdi 170 which has done 52k. When I bought the car I realised that a cam belt change would be due soon. From looking at Audi's website they recommend every 5 years or 75k miles.

Just wanted to know if people follow those guidlines fully and get the belt changed every 5 years? Or if in a situation like mine, where I have 20k to go before reaching 75k, wait for the car to do more miles?

I fully understand the implications of a cam belt snapping, but wondered whether Audi's advice is over cautious and obviously in their best interests to get you bringing your car in for work more often?!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you are at all concerned about the cost of maintaining the Audi, well you bought the wrong car.

Byrun, not sure how your comment was helpful, but as to the question regarding the cam belt...

I would suggest getting it checked out by a local garage before taking it to the dealership. I just had mine looked at (I have a 2006 also with about 50k on it) and they said to swap it out within the next year or so just to be safe.
