You should ask if the mechanic passed a drug test...

 

When the tech said "your quattro is messed up" was he referring to the car in general or the drivetrain? While I can see a collection of little problems adding up to "messed up" from a dealer's perspective, I find it hard to believe that the drivetrain would be messed up without exhibiting some very noticable issues in getting down the road.
Having personally "messed up" more than one quattro drivetrain, it isn't something subtle, it is a major hitch in your get along.
Always seek a 2nd for that much though.
