you are 100% right 2ks4...I have wanted to chip my car since december of last year when I bought it....in fact, that's the reason i went turbo, because it's alot more mod friendly... For the most part I just want to have a reliable semi-quick car....like you said, the harder you drive the car the more likely something is going to "wear-out"...since i already have 107K on practically every part on the car...I figured I would invest in some peace of mind, instead of waiting for a problem...I am a strong believer in preventative maintenance....so far you and lazer are both telling me to chip the damn thing already and to not worry about anything, at least until there is something to worry about....

Ok, I will not change or mod anything.....the next chunk of change I spend on my car will be a GIAC chip and thats final....I'll definately keep everyone updated

thanks again!

i think you are the hardest person that wants to chip to actually convince to get a chip ever

now chip your car, and come back when you are bored with that power and we can convince you to blow more money on your car

I won't ask anymore chip related questions until after I have been chipped, hopefully the next set of questions will be in a few months when I finally go pc-16

thanks agan!

I dont know if you are still in the market for a chip but i just did the InMotion chip and it has great power. I am going for a final dyno test next week to get the official numbers but i know it has alot more power you can feel. The guys at InMotion of nice and helpful also

This is a Chip question....I have two identical stock ECUs...neither of them are chipped, I have been reading about inmotion and i figured for 175$ why not chip my extra ECU, but after further investigation I have found that there is a big inconsistency when it comes down to #s

from what I gather, for my vehicle GIAC is the favor, and inmotion is a no-name yet to be trusted tuner...either way I am primarily looking for function and secondarily looking for value....
its up to you. do you want bigger numbers and more confidence in reliability for more money, or decent number and less confindence in reliability for less money?

My snag is the broadness in expectations (hp/tq increase)

In Motion's website says that you should expect to go from 150hp-207.12 and to go from 165tq-199
On the other hand GIAC says you should go from 150hp-190/200 and go from 165tq-215/245
(i am guessing GIAC's #'s aren't clear because the #'s depend on other mods besides a DV)

Okay, I know alot of you are thinking that i shouldn't even think about going w/inmotion, but my deal is that sometime in the next year i will definately be going KO4 and for now I just want a lil bit more kick without the GIAC pricetag (which will be included in the awe kit eventually)...and besides that if I do have a problem w the tuning from inmotion I do have an extra ecu to swap out
i will not believe those inmotion numbers till someone posts a dyno. im bettin the car they used for the dyno they did had a few supporting mods. if your gonna get a k04 in the future, you should probly get GIAC. your gona have to upgrade the software with the new turbo and if you already have a GIAC chip, then they give you a discount when switching to another program.

So, now I have a few questions

1- why does inmotion and Giac's torque have such a huge difference?
2-with just a dv what would my realistic hp/tq be?
3-why does GIAC say that you will gain 50-80 ft lbs?....what's with the fluxuation?
4-has anyone dynoed their car w just GIAC and a dv?...what kind of #'s did the car put down?
1-cause GIAC is a torque monster. all their chips are geared towards large amounts of torque and kick in the pants power, while companies like APR concentrate on getting high end power
2-dv is not gona add any horsepower. with giac you should have ~190 sumthin hp and 230 sumthin tq
3- probly supporting mods. if you have a testpipe or high flow cat you gain a LOT of torque, so if the test pipe (or an exhaust) is intalled before the chip you will probly gain 80 ft lbs but if its completely stock you'll gain something closer to 50.
4. im sure there's some dyno's out there, im just too lazy to look for them lol

In general I am interested in GIAC's #s...I plan on doing 2.5" custom exhaust, homebrew fmic, carbonio intake(I know it's a waste, but it's pretty and I want it), new turbo inlet....and all other supporting mods for the ko4 I will eventually install....

Oh, and I am planning on going with the awe ko4 kit eventually and I do know you save $200 on it if you are already running GIAC.... I honestly could take a 175$ hit alot easier than a 455$ hit....I just had to throw down $800 for freakin books!....

thank you for your input, everything and anything you can contribute will definately be appreciated!
get your books on the internet. you will save so much more money.

I am currently dead set on GIAC...after I get chipped I'll b sure to let everyone know whats up...thats for the replies, better late than never!...

the prob with buying books online for me is that I am not sure wether or not I am going to take the classes I sign up for until after I meet the teach...If I can stand the teach then i just buy a used book for their class and save about 25% off the new book price and I get it same day without hassel or shipping and being able to flip through the pages and srring that everything is there without someone elses highlighting and notes, plus if I buy the wrong book than i can just return it in person

00 avant w/k&n, giac, evo dv, borla catback 102,000mi -i installed all items in stages, and every one made a difference in performance. also, everytime atleast one hose (main intake, brake vacuum line, hose @ dv, hoses w/sensors, hoses w/out sensors, etc) blew. every time. i'd expect to reconnect or replace some of those. i don't know your tranny, but (according to the audi dealer i had install mine and i agree) the giac reconfigures the tiptronic. also, hp is the great lie. torques your power. nothing better than following your car and watching the whole car settle when it shifts gears.

The GIAC ECU Flash, does NOTHING for the TIP trans, you need the TCU chip for that.
