Hello all, great forum! Anyways, i just sold my eclipse and i am looking at getting an audi. I looked at a A4 yesterday and it just wasnt feeling right. There was dents, and door was forced open too far by rolling into a tree And the engine was making wierd sounds. He said it needed a major tuneup, and the sensors were fubard sooo.. i found a much better audi and i was just wondering what your guys thought about it. I dont know audis very well but i just love the way they look and feel. Well heres the ad A4 and for those who dont want to click here is what it has. I have talked to the gentleman on the phone and it sounded like he loved and babied this car.
1997 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro;
H&R Coil-Overs;
17" Audi S4 Avus Wheels with New Pirelli All Season Tires;
ABD/LLTek Grilles;
LLTek Cold-Air Intake and Heat Sheild;
Sport Interior Package;
Bose Stereo;
Winter package-Yellow fogs, dual rear fogs;
Leather-Interior is Immaculate, very luxurious;
145K Miles

This car is amazing to drive. Mechanically perfect. New timing belt, brakes, wheel bearings, and the list goes on. Everything has been done at Audi dealerships. I love and cherish this car and have taken excellent care of it. It is a beautiful car and so much fun to drive, very quick, but safe. It sticks to the road and takes corners like a go-cart. Once you drive this car you will understand how much fun it is. The suspension has made a world of difference and is the perfect compliment to the quick and solid motor.

This car is made for the roads on and around Cape Cod and loves the turns and curves. More than anything, I want this car to go to someone who will appreciate it and drive it for what it is worth. This is an excellent daily driver for someone who is used to and expecting performance. Serious inquiries only.

He is asking 5300 But i can work something out and get it to 5000

There are two things he said that are wrong with the car

#1Moonroof doesnt open I can live with that because thats a luxury anyway. How much approx would that be to fix?
#2No power locks

Thanks in advance!![8D]

1) I think the 97 should have power locks.

2) if you want to be able to modify the car, move along. The 97's have the AFC 12v V6 in them which is almost impossible to modify to any degree for major power gains unless you put down some serious cash.

3) if you just want a good DD, that is a little spirited, this looks like a good car to me.

Thanks for the quick reply! How many miles can these cars drive before issues become to arise if it has been properly maintained and not abused? Also what is a better year then 97, keeping in mind i dont really want to spend more then 5-6?
thanks

Just remember that your buying a 5000 Audi that requires expensive servicing. At that mileage if anything goes wrong plan to have atleast 500 in the bank to cover it. Its good that the guy has seemed to have taken good care of it but it also sounds like he has driven it kind of hard and you might want to ask him about the CV's and such as those will be getting close to needing some service. I just spent a thousand replacing my front two. BE READY TO PAY!

I think it's an after market add on.lol

Well stick is harder to blow up then auto,cheaper to replace and fix and in a worst case scenario a lil easier DIY. It usually will last forever if not terribly beaten on and if beaten will still usually outlast an auto. When was the clutch replaced,a stock clutch can last 145k miles and mines got 118k,but your on borrowed time and should consider this a part of the purchase price if never replaced. I think you should be able 2 get that price under 5 grand being that its an 11 year old car,and for the same price you can get a 98 with a bit more powerful engine and a few other updates for the same price.The first 2 years of the 2.8 are a lil less desirable as the engine is less powerful then 98+ and a few cosmetic tweaks were done on later ones. You will most definitly notice the diffrence in engine power between the 2 engines. The 12V is next 2 completely unmodable,except for custom set ups. It's a great car that should easily last till 300K+ miles if cared 4.
