they are indented into the sides. dont know of anything to replace them with. the only thing i could think of was take it to a paint shop and have them fill the indent and paint it. a little one the expensive side though. i dont know how they are attached if eather by glue or cliped/screwed in.

They are riveted into the side of the car. We looked into taking them off my friend's '97 and it was not feasible. Removing them would leave holes in the fender. And they are not easy to remove either.
