Everyone hear should know that a automatic engine loses more power then a manual transmission after a while right ? well if you do know that then think about it if you chip a car why does the warranty become voided? because the dealership knows that it will **** up your engine itll make it run to hard.

"after a while"??? er, NO. The only power loss occurs in the torque converter. The torque converter on an A4 can handle upwards of 250 hp. The power in an auto does not degrade over time.

Sure a chip adds stress to all parts of the car, but the consequences of chipping are the same between a manual and an automatic. Auto's have no additional problems or dangers attributed to chipping. The "dealership" will void your warranty on their first chance for whatever reason they can - its saves them lots of money. I know 4 people who are chipped, 2 that are autos. None have ever had problems.

Dude, stick to topics you know something about, or at least try to explain what your saying a little better.

Totally agree (except for the flame at the end - no need to slam someone).

I know at least 10 guys with AT and chips (due to participating in my local Audi club) - they have reported no problems... ever.

well yes I know I am actually a parts manager at a Audi dealer ship in Ontario and we have had a few customers come in with chipped S4's with blown turbos and it was a customer pay job just cause they were chipped and since one of the techs will be probley taking out my ecu they are giong to know it will be chipped i might just wait until warrenty expires

Well (pardon me), but that's just naive and ignorant. You can take out the ecu yourself; it takes less than 5 minutes. Why put yourself in the hot-seat when you can simply avoid it with an APR chip or the new GIAC IBE chip-switch? The dealership you work for is either on the lookout for chipped S4's or the customers are being foolish/acquiescent. In either case, it comes down to the customer who is being naive and ignorant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to slam you. In fact, I'd like for you to be a happy owner/driver of a chipped car. I'm just giving you my opinion.

relax, brotha. I am not trying to win - I am just trying to keep the wrong info from being told to people who want to know. Like I said - manual and auto - same deal. Always a risk when chipping so anything can happen but auto has no higher risk than a manual.

You're right; this isn't about winning. (But... actually, you've got me backing you up with at least ten other owners of AT with chips.)

And yeah, Mehurrman. Chill bro! We disagree with you. brrman even used technical info to prove his point. I agree with his points and I have several other owners who would agree with him, too.

Lastly, I think he summed it up quite well: "Always a risk when chipping so anything can happen but auto has no higher risk than a manual."

I heard it from my friend who owns a volkswagon jetta and he has a manual car, and me and him both wanted to chip our cars but he told me about this whole issue about chipping an automatic so that made me decide not to do it, and i even asked a mechanic if that was true and taht mechanic agreed.

ah well that explains everything![&:]

Everyone has an opinion I suppose. But be careful of believing everything mechanics say. I have heard the dumbest things come out of an Audi technicians mouth on occasion. Mechanics are not tuners for the most part either. I'd take APR's or GIAC's word over a simple mechanic's anyday.

Mehurmann if you're that worried, get the GIAC tipchip first. That will make your tranny a little more robust and you will have some piece of mind - then you can chip.
