Default 02 A4 Coolant/ Misfire problem

Okay, here goes, I bought my 1.8T in October and had it prepurchase inspected at a well known mechanic and everything. I have driven it about 20K since then and recently noticed a misfire. I had new plugs and coils put in about 5 months ago and have heard that they have troubles with the coils but after replacement and clearing of the computer the light came on a couple of days later, then, my low coolant light came on and vapor started coming out of the exhaust. I am thinking I got ripped into buying a "patched up" A4 but was wondering if it is a cracked block or head or is it something else? The misfire is mainly on #3 .BTW when I bought the car it had green antifreeze in it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated- Thanks

Check all the fluids for level and contamination.

The first warning should have been green coolant. It means that whoever owned/worked on the car didn't know what they were doing.

The combination of misfire and loss of coolant on cyl 3 doesn't sound good. You can check if the exhaust gas is coolant or just condensation. Take a glass jar and cool it in the freezer. Put it over the exhaust pipe with the car running. Collect some condensate and put the jab back in the freezer. If it doesn't freeze, it definately has antifreeze in it.

The other possible place for loss of coolant is the oil cooler. Check your oil dipstick and fill cap for creamy looking material. (bad sign)

Thanks for the heads up. The vapor coming out of the exhaust smells like antifreeze but I will try the jar just to make sure. I have checked the dipstick expecting to find the chocolate milk (have had a blown Head gasket in a Toyota before) but the oil was clean and not mixed. I will let you know and thanks again!
