Well, my worst fear was realized this morning. The damned oil pressure light came on again. Audi did a full engine flush with some sort of pressured system. ($300 with the oil change). They said tons of gunk ended up coming out. The light comes and goes so I'm assuming that means it's not completely clogged. That and the engine hasn't seized yet. So my next question for you gurus is...Should I start by just replacing the oil pump and go from there? I can't afford the $3000k they Audi dealer wants so I'm thinking of bringing it to an independent shop and having it done. What else is involved beside and oil pump and some lines? WTF could cost $3000?

On a positive note I returned the loaner A6 with the check engine light on. It wasn't easy but I got it to light up and stay lit.

The labor is why its so expensive.. It would probably take you a full day to do it yourself. It'd be worth while though.. An oil pump costs like $200 max and youll need a new oil pan seal and other than that, i dont know.

I wish I could do it my self. I just learned how to change my oil! I'm going to bring it to another shop and have them check the pressure.

Thought I would fill you in on the latest. After going back in forth with Audi they ended up doing the right thing. They agreed to cover the entire repair. They found out today they cambearings were fried so looks like I'm getting a new engine. A fresh 1.8t for free!

Thanks for all you help!

Dan

i bought my audi with 41k on it and i drove it for less than a 1000 miles when the oil pump light came on 10 miles from my place. i knew what it was and knew what was going to happen. but i didn't care because the dealership would pay for it because i just bought it less than a week ago. i beat the crap out of the car for that 10 miles all highway. the car was making a rattling popping sound. the dealership picked it up, i told them i would drive it . yeah they didn't want that. so it ended up being sludge though out the lines, the turbo was shot the engine was ruined. so 3 wks later i had a new engine, lines and turbo. glad it happened just after i bought it.
