Yea why would anyone want a 2.8? What idiot just wants a reliable daily driver. Who wants real leather and a power seat? What kind of idiot would not want to worry about his turbo or finding a boost leak.
i went from a 2.8 to a 1.8t and never looked back but still
ouch. major ouch lol

So, why would anyone want a 2.8? I mean, is there any reason at all?

the 2.8 has chrome window trim, real leather, power seats, stronger tranny, real woodgrain that cant be beat by any other woodgrain, most have the bose sound system which a lot of 1.8's dont come with...
the 2.8 was and still is audis more expensive/luxurious version of the a4.... the 1.8 is more of the "diet coke" but if you plan on spending extensive money on mods than its worth it i guess..
k, i can put this to rest with recent research. i have a 2000 1.8t manual, my buddy has a 1998 2.8 auto.
from a stop: i was up by 2 or 3 car lengths the entire way, until we got to about a buck 10, 115 maybe, then he got even with me and would have passed me if the straight didnt end.

because a 30v 2.8 runs a 15.1 stock, a chipped/exhaust/dv 1.8 will run a 15.1 as well and have not nearly as much ***** as the 2.8 past 3rd gear..

Oh and here is some nice closure for the subject, the "nuff said" of the debate if you will
