I was wondering how much i would pay for a used 1.8T Engine and ECU. I have a 2.8 and its fine for right now. But after i (hopefully) get settled in a new college next year, i want to get some nice hp going. Half of the people on this site are gonna say..."ahh, just sellthe 2.8and get a 1.8T mannnn." But you see. Ive already started upgrading, and to be quite honest, this car was a great find because its near flawless and looks like it rolled out of the show room last week. I would much rather just drop in a 1.8T in a few months then get a totally new car.

Im just lookin for a used 1.8T that i can make run smooth. And then upgrade the turbo. Even a junk yard engine that i can rebuild. What you guys think...prices? A new engine is not worth the swap.

BTW - I have searched this but just to be sure...my 98 2.8L 30v 5 speed tranny will take the 1.8T Engine right?

 

there was a thread about this the other day. probly on the first couple of pages. and switching to a 1.8T is gona give you so many headaches and cost a shitload. your gona have to change more than just the engine. even if your 2.8 is already modded. it will be WAY cheaper to get a 1.8T.

 

I guess i will just have to work a little harder then. Im just looking for a direct answer for once.

I REALIZE it will be work. Im not a stranger of working for what i want.
I REALIZE i may lose some money in the swap but the S/C for the 2.8 will only give me about 250whp for about $5000. And im JUST TRYING to see if i can get away with a 1.8T swap w/ BT for more HP for the same or even less money. THATS IT!

it will around the same price to throw in a vr6-t. and then you'll be making even more power than a 1.8T

as for swapping in a BT'd 1.8T, i'd guestimate around 15g's if you got a shop to do it, maybe 10k if you shopped around for deals and did all the work yourself.

 

Either sell it and buy a new1.8t or swap a vr6tt in it!
