Default 1.8t Turbo lag

What is the simplest, cheap way to make the turbo more responsive? I have a 97 1.8t and from a stand still it, seems that it takes forever to get to the RPM range where the turbo really works.

You need a chip, it raisees your boost to about 18psi and will add about 50hp, check the archives for details.

Get SlimChriz to port and polish your manifold. it takes about 2 1/2 weeks including ground shipping to et this done. he charges $80 + shipping, which is vary reasonable. send chriz a pm

That sounds very reasonable. I might watch Ebay for a manifold so I don't have to be without my car for that long while it is being polished. How were the results for you?

I've also heard that there is something you can do to the wastegate to reduce the lag. Do you know anything about that?

I don't have a turbo engine, but after I had my throttle body and maf bored out and polished, my engine was able to rev noticably faster. I'm thinking that would allow your engine to create booste faster limiting the lag time.
