Default 1.8T vs 2.8L

What are your opions between the two, what do you think is the best engine type? I had my mind set on the 2.8L because i thought that the 1.8t would not be fast enough. I know that the 1.8T is easier to find parts for but my friend always complains about his 1.8T and how its not fast enough. What would be the best way to go? And yes im sorry im assuming many people have posted this same question but i couldnt find it please dont get upset.

1.8T + chip is faster than a 2.8, chips are around 500 bucks US I think, and add 50 hp and 80 lbs of torque to the base 150.

The v6 is however, quieter, smoother, and more reliable... but short of the $5K supercharger... the 1.8T is infinately more modable.

Hi welcome to the forum.

Spank, spank, if you didn't find the answer you didn't look very hard.

Very short answer is that the 1.8T, with simple and relatively small modification can outrun the 2.8 with ease, AND get batter gas mileage. The 2.8, however, as it is not turbocharged, is a simpler and more reliable engine.

Well if you are interested in modding then get a 1.8, if you don't get into that then go for a 2.8. Seriously this has been hashed out 100x's just this month.

the 1.8t is dead reliable... don't be confused by the above posting... to get a nice kick in the pants be prepared to spend some dough:

new intercooler: 1000 bux
exhaust : 1100 bux
injectors and software: 200 + whatever the software...

but then you're pulling 190 hp and 245 tq at wheels or more...

i wouldn't like the 2.8....it's heavy

the 2.8 doesnt feel terribly heavy... they are great cars... but yeah, not as many effective mods.

and the 1.8T is fairly reliable... but not like the 2.8L which is bombproof.

Ehh, the 1.8t is hardly "dead reliable". It's usually pretty good, but it has it's share of problems.

don't be confused by the above posting...
What is that supposed to mean?

i love it when the guy with 50 post starts to bad mouth us. Haha teh 2.8 is relaible but yes its slow. But not as slow as the 1.8T but once the 1.8T is chipped it faster. If i had my choice and was buying anothe rone i woud gte the 1.8T cause i liek to mod but there is nothing for my car. If u have any questions about the 2.8L u can PM me.
