1.)Flashing "OIL" 2.)Rev & stall
1.)My car is a 97 b5 2.8.... I needed an oil change and I noticed that there was an "OIL" message flashing under my odometer, but now I changed my oil and the damn thing will not go away. The owners manual has nothing about reseting...
2.) Please let me know if this sounds like anything specific or if anyone has had simular problems: The car will rev on its own to about 1200rpm's (always at idle) and then it drops down and stalls out. While it drops i have no throttle response at all. It takes a while to start back up after this and sometimes when i first get in the car, but its really random. ANY IDEAS?
Thank You Always,
Glen

button A is the odometer under the speedo and B is the dimmer under the rev counter.
OEL-OIL service light

the letters OEL or OIL will appear in the odometer display of the speedometer.
pull out button B until the letters are erased and replaced by *--*

now the inspection service light.
press and hold button A.
switch ignition on.
release button A.
the letters INSP will appear in the odometer display of the.
if required clear the OEL-OIL indicator from the display as previously described

Thanks alot dave.....I forgot to say the scanner is reading a coolant malfunction, ..............im thinkin thats the thermostat, but that wouldent make the car stall like that right? and i will test the vac too. thanks!
its possible that a CTS could make the car stall, it will make the car think its all sortsa different temps and try and change things to make it run better while in reality its making it run worse cuz its not seeing the real temp the car is at
im for broken wires to the coolant stat or at least a shorted wire to ground, I don't think its the thermostat but could easily be both the stat and sender if that makes any sense, coolant temp sensor is my guess
