Default 1996 Audi A4 Problems

Bought a 1996 Audi A4, 2.8L stick shift with 125k miles.

The owner disconnected the check engine light before I bought it. He also placed a custom cold air intake on the car.

I fixed the light, got the codes read and they were P300,P301,P302,P303. I cleaned the MAF sensor, which made an improvement at first but wore off. I checked the plugs and coils, all seem to be good.

The main problem is that the car idles bad. When first starting up it will be ok after the MAF cleaning, but then after some driving, when the car is sitting in neutral the RPMs drop from 1100 to as low as 600.

Underneath the car there is some leakage from the middle of the car, it is a clear odorless liquid. Is this my cats? There were no cat fault codes?

I am just confused as to what it could be. I am thinking the MAF may just be shot but would this cause the leakage under my car? Perhaps it is the MAF and the leakage could just be a gasket?

Any advice would be appreciated and Happy Holidays to all.

Replaced the coils and plugs (after my hood latch assembly broke which was a headache in itself.

Still getting 300,301,302,303.

Vacuum lines the next place? I have no clue where to start with them. Anyone have a diagram?

considering it is only one bank misfiring, I would start with spark plugs and the spark distrubitor modules for the corresponding cylinders.

get some carb cleaner and sparay the vaccum hoses that come off the valve covers follow their routes.

youll also notice a grip of tubes toward the back of the fuel rail these are vaccum lines aswell. spray it all down with little burts of carb cleaner while in idle, if the idle changes at all while spraying then the are you sprayed is where the leak is coming from.

THIS IS NOT SUPER SAFE so have a fire exstingushier ready.

another way you can check is with soapy water in a spray bottle and look for bubbles this is a little safer but its still flamable.

also sense its coming from only one bank, i doubt every spark plug would fail, without any others going out. this could also be a timing issue, cam position sensor etc... try to test the vaccum hoses and check the pulse on the fuel injectors from that side.

if the liquid looks like water it probably is just water.

I have a 1996 Audi A4, 2.8L stick shift with 35000 miles. I loved this car but sadly someone decided to steal the catalytic converter off of it and since then it's been going down hill, i have sold some parts as well. I want to sell the whole car because it does a good motor and is loaded with parts. 500 and it's yours. if anyone is interested you can message me on Facebook Devin Zachary Gahm or shoot me an email Devingahm31@gmail.com I'm located in southern Ohio lucasville thanks and God bless.
