Default 1997-1999 audi a4 timing belt...old topic

i have a 1997 audi a4 with 83k miles on it. timing belt suggested maintenance interval- 90k. my timing belt broke at 83k. cost of engine damage- $6300.

ive done my research- know there is a known issue, know there was a class action law suit, know there are posts on here, know there are thousands of people who have similar experiences yet have had their repairs paid in full.

audi is giving me the cold shoulder. i would like any information regarding your experiences, any advice you could give me, or any other complaints regarding the timing belt. i am not letting this get swept under the rug.

thanks!

Laywer will be what gets this pushed thru. I'm wondering if I should just wait mine out its says 105 in the book and I know it wont last that long but its false advertising and they should of made it a Recall to cover there butts.

1.8T change guide is 74k miles 120,klm the 2.8 recommends it be checked every 37k miles 60,klm and dosnt give a change interval, that's autodata it might be different over there

That freakin sux!...When I bought my A4 last december All I knew is what I wanted and didn't know anything about a timing belt service (necessary replacement)....So I bought the car thinking I was getting a steal($6,500), then I come to find out that I was due for a timing belt and I had three leaking gaskets! (87K when I bought it)....needless to say $2,000 later....I basically bought the car for $8,500... which I believe was the bluebook value.....

I'm sorry to hear that your belt whent out on you....+1 for what darknight101 said, the only way you are going to make any headway is by having a lawyer push your case through...

good luck!

Default Timming belt

So ya hearing alot about timming belts yes there good for a really long time but the dealer ships want you to change them because there jews if you check it and its not wearing or not being a problem then you should be fine I own a 1997 Audi 1.8T it's like the bomb I bought when it had 375000km an I just hit 400 the dealer told me to change it at 400 but seems to be fine I'm not wasting money on a car that might not make it a nother season just drive bros if you want it to last don't kill it but don't baby it either 😊 anymore questions
