1998 1.8T....I have some questions and no answers
(This is all on a 1998 1.8T)I was driving down the road today and all of a sudden my sunroof cracks open. The *** was in the "closed" position and then it just cracked itself open. Also... does anybody have a remedy for the windows making a squeeky noise when the roll down. It seems like it only happens when it's really hot out. The last one has me the most concerned. When i drive down the street and the a/c is on, when the turbo kicks in i here some sort of noise, a noise that isn't suppose to be heard, almost like a shaking or rattlling noise. It is chipped and i don't have the new dv yet... I'm hoping that is what the problem is. Any answers to these problems will be greatly appreciated.

Open the back of the sunroof switch and clean the contacts. Take off the door panel and check to see if theres anything caught in there that would cause that annoying squeak. Sorry can't help you with the turbo issue.

I have all three of those problems. My sunroof will open even when in the closed position. Alls I do is turn the *** and turn it back to close and then it closes. The windows are squeaking from really hot dry windows sliding through the black rubber. Thats normal on a hot day. and the noise is most likely your DV or your turbo. Do you have performance issues?

My sunroof just started squeeking, and it wasn't necessarily a hot day yesterday. It had rained recently, and I used the tilt mode for a bit, so I'm wondering if maybe some water got inside and started this squeeking. Very annoying. I'm thinking I can use silicone lubricant to silence this problem. Only once has my sunroof opened on it's own, but it was right after I had closed the roof. Similarly, my driver's window kept rolling itself down to its most recent position after I would close it (using the full-press of the window key = auto-roll-up). It did that until I took the key out of the ignition, and then restarted the car. Only a single instance in both cases. I haven't been too concerned about it, really.
