1999 A4 1.8t Chipped. Need help
This is gonna sound really noob, but I've done a little research on google, and havent come up with anything. Supposably when I got my car, the guy said it was chipped. It feels like it is at times, but other times it doesnt. I really don't know, because I've never had a chipped car before, but that may only be the turbo kicking in. Again, I've never had a turbo car, so I dont know the difference between the boost and it possibly being chipped. So, here is my question. If you could possibly post pictures of where the chip would be located, I can possibly see if it IS indeed chipped, and then work it out from there. I think that would be better than taking it to my local shop for an hourly rate. Thanks so much in advance for all of your guys' help. Truely are a wonderful group here at AF. Also, do we have access to any other decals besides the ones that just say audi forums.com? i mean in like any other styles?
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike
To the best of my knowledge, they don't stick another "chip" in the car, but download a progarm upgrade into the existing ECU in the car. There's no 'chip' to really look at. In the case of the APR programming (chipping) you turn the different stages on and off using the cruise control switch. You can choose to either run in stock mode or w/afterburners [8D].
Can you find out from the seller what 'chip' (programming) went into yourride? Ie;'APR' 'GIAC', or some other? If you can find that out we may be able to tell you how engage/dissenge the programming. OtherwiseI would tryto find anotherstockAudiof your year and see if you can take it for a spin to compare. With whatever you have, the programming wont turn on and off all by itself. It's either one or the other..

Get a boost gauge and if your boosting past 8-9 psi then your prolly chipped. With mine I boost to about 20 and holding at 16-17.
Only on the 2000+ A4s could your ECU just be re-flashed, before then a chip would need to soldered in, so locate your ECU and open it and see.

if it 00+ you have to get a boost gauge to know for sure. but if you can beat hondas you are chipped
