i've always found that my stock speakers sounded great, i would recomend just putting a sub in. also check the output of your deck/ upgrade the deck to go with upgraded speakers, if thats what you choose.

i have a 99.5 with the stock Audi concert stereo and all my speakers are pre-amped so if you have the same ones you would probably have to do a lot of work. i think you might have to replace the head unit too.
because i was thinking of doing the same and my friend works for a stereo shop and thats wat he told me.

Im not really complaning about the stock speakers but they have no bass wat so ever. But i was thinking about replacing the head unit as well so i can use my ipod with it so i figuredwhy not upgrade the speakers too. Im just wondering what the price tag will be.

I have bought items from crutchfield.com in the past. According to them there is no direct replacements for the front speakers and will require fabricating a bracket to make the limited choices they offer fit. I would go with oneg, put in a sub plus amp the stock speakers post crossover. That way you have only the lows going to the sub and the rest to the stockers. This is what I plan to do. I agree stockers just have no bass whatsoever, it drives me nuts when I want to jam a good song.
