1999 Stock Speaker Question
Greetings-
I recently purchased a used 1999 A4 Avant Quattro Wagon with a V6, 98K Miles. My front two 4 Inch door speakers were blown when I got the car. I successfully removed the two door speakers and ventured out to purchase 4 inch replacements. I found a pair of 4 inch pioneers at a local stereo shop for a reasonable price ($50/pair). When I spoke to the tech at the shop he told me that any aftermarket speakers would not work (well) because of the stock stereo's amp being incompatible. He recommended rewiring the whole vehicle with a new component system. I am fairly broke and do not have the money to invest in a new component system.
Questions:
1) Is this stereo tech correct, or was he trying to sell me a load of B.S. so I'd buy a whole component system?
2) If he was correct- where can I locate OEM Audi speakers?
The stock speakers I have are Blaupunkt #8 637 611 239
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

Because the left rear speaker had a built in amp,so i had it bypassed and used an after market amp for the 4 speakers and a 2nd amp for the sub woofer.

Although he was right, you DON'T have to rewire your whole system, just have to bypass the amp altogether.

Your stock front speakers are 3.5" and have 3 screws, not 4 like every other aftermarket speaker. He's right in that it won't fit directly, but you can work around that. Check out these links

Or you can try to fab your own adapter. I don't understand why the amp wouldn't work well together other than the speakers you were looking at would be pulling more power due to the increase in size. I haven't taken my front doors apart, and can't say for certain where the front amp is located.
I'd say DIY over paying some guy to sell you a brand new system when it's only bracket mounting for the most part. Or find a part out. There may be less clarity in the front due to the stock amp for the front speakers not being powerful enough. In that case you could find a small small amp and mount it under the dash. I would talk to him asking why it wouldn't work as well and if he mentions power, I would look for a part out.
The amp morpheous is referring to is only to power the speakers in the rear deck and located underneath the rear speaker on the driver side of the car

I did the rewire of whole system this past summer when I installed new head unit, amp and speakers. I'm glad I did. It was worth the effort instead of trying to use the factory speaker wires and driving myself crazy. I ordered the Autoleads 5.25 inch front speaker adapters too and they work perfectly in the stock location. They are not too expensive either.
I have some 6.5 inch speaker adapters that should work in the rear doors of your Avant if you are interested.

Just a suggestion,do as you please of corse
i just replaced my 2 rear deck speakers with infinity ones and i didnt have to do any rewiring.. but i also have the bose system if that makes any difference. the infinity reference speakers also came with a bracket for them to screw in but i just used the one that was on the bose speakers since it fit better
