Its a little known fact about Audi's that if you acutally speak outoud "First Please" it will automatically shift into first without moving your shifter.
On a more serious note,you'll get a feel for it after a while.I don't like the "pushing hard" approach; hold it there for a second, and if your going slow enoughit will slip in.
And its not that I downshift into 1st when passing poeple on the highway, but when your rolling up on a red light that's going to turn soon, I often want to be in first to start from a very slow roll or dead stop.

Dont forget to have a buddy drain your oil about 3 minutes into the red line rev to let the piston rings breath better.
