lol... if you want to put time into it, and not have a stable car then thats your choice.. but otherwise I wouldn't even bother.

2k for a car with a need for rebuilt heads is NOT a good project. You can find a running high mileage A4 for that.

Maybe YOU can, but I have only found one other a4 in 3 months of searching for around 2k in my area..

I was planning on spending 5 or 6k and spending the rest of my budget on goodies (shocks springs wheels chip exhaust stereo.. whatever it doesnt already have, I plan on buying it with at least a couple of things already done to it)

You can't test to see if the valves are bent with a compression test if all of the intake valves are bent, you could have constitant compression throughout the cylinders still, they need to perform a leakdown test. If the compression was too low in all cyliders that would point to a intake valves issue but most people believe if a compression test isequal throughout the cylindersthe motor is fine. What comp. #'s did it put out? I would imagine also that if it did break or was put on with the cam timing off it is misfiring in more cylinder than just 1,2,3 (since the fireing order isn't 1,2,3) and the ecu is only picking up major misfires, without datalogging it and a leakdown test there is no way to know.

Where is this car located? I might be interested in buying it.

Your membership is valued man, seriously... Great answer..

Andyrew-are you opposed to traveling up to 60 miles to get a car? You never know what you can find thats out of your local area. I think you could find what youre looking for (in running condition) if you broaden your horizons a little, as far as the search goes.

you're insane if you buy this car. there is no way his timing belt broke and his valves arent bent. I'm sure there's still compression in the pistons, which means you may not need a new bottom end, but you're lookin at basically replacing the whole top end of the motor to make it easy on yourself (i.e. you could go through and replace all of the valves and seals and everything else, or you could buy a buit head and strap it on). RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS CAR! that is unless you're looking for something to put thousands of dollars, and tons of time into just to make it run. I'd go ahead and say its not worth it.

misfire in 1-2-3 could be coil pack/ leaking injectors/ bad wiring/ spark plugsor gap, what were the readings on the compression test??

If you aren't willing to travel you're not looking hard enough.
