2.8 liter motor swap?
You can pass emissions with a standalone if you have a good tuner and hooks in all the emission controls, but its going to be difficult to get any engine swap to pass emissions since you have to find places for items to go and then get them to work.

a vr6 would totally be worth it.. about the same weight at a 2.7t or a 2.8, and if you use a 24v vr then you have a much higher displacement then the 2.7 or 2.8
but its only been done once, by a major shop, and it took alot of custom fabrication and tuning.. not exactly the kind of swap some guy could do in his garage in a weekend, or even a decent tuning shop
well sure.. with the right tools, and skills you can do anything.. but most people dont have anything more then hand tools
if i had a welder and money, i would certainly give it a shot too

yea, but running full standalone you then have the issue of passing inspection , and i'd venture to say that most people that want to do this.. want to drive the car on the street

as for the original question, you can swap whatever you like. the easiest would probly be a 1.8T. you would even have to change the tranny. but for the same price you could probly sell ur car and get a 1.8T
