Does anyone know the difficulty ( if possible) involved in putting a manual 97 2.8 trany into a 98 1.8t?

i only ask because I'm looking at a 98 1.8 for an very good price and don't want automatic[:@]. and i have a parts car with a good trany and if its possible id like to save myself some money by getting this car and just spending the time too swap the tranys.

 

been there done that... direct fit. same tranny case just different gears and stronger.

 

sweet, i heard the gears are diffrent in a good way too. looks like im doin it, how long did it take you? and did you doit with a lift?

 

I don't think it would bolt up, plus you would have to change the ECM, TCM ect.

quattro trannies are a bitch. it takes a while and alot of sweat. did it in a full shop... all tools at my disposal. I dont know exactly how long because we were just hanging out one saturday and doing it with alot of other things. taking breaks and ****. Just devote a day to it. your trying to convert from auto to manual tho right?

so you didnt swap an auto out for a standard? that was more my question, because i;ve heard swapping mauals works fine. Its not that i have the car aleady with an auto trans in it, its just i found one cheaper, and if tis possible id liek to do it.

 

You can go manual to manual,but pretty sure its a no go to convert.
So, if you want a manual, you'r just going to have to buy a manual to start with.

 

I really don't think it is worth the trouble..........gl though
