i dont have the car so im in no way obligated, i just dont want to buy a 1.8 with an auto then be stuck with it [:@]. just a question of curiosity. the car i was looking at was being sold for 2500 with 130 grand on the clock. and was a 98 1.8t. so it was a good price, it was just auto.

 

yea i think its more trouble than its worth. never heard of anyone doing it before...

Thats why its so cheap, because its an auto, not to mention a 2.8. Probably FWD too! All the wrong stuff for an audi!

 

At that price, it wouldn't be a bad backup car for someone though. I wouldn't mind having a second A4 to drive for when I take mine down for a timing belt job, or doing other work on it. At that price, I'd be very tempted to get it just to use for that reason.

 

im pretty sure it would bolt up but i think you might run into a problems (or just a big headache) with the electronic. i helped a freind swap out an auto for manual in a dodge neon and man it was a nightmare. took HOURS to swap just the pedals. anyway, if it was a pain in a neon i dont even want to think about how much work it would be in an audi.

at that price i would buy the 1.8t and sell it. then buy an a4 with a 5spd

 

you can trade out the 2.8 into teh 1.8t as long as its only a manual. there is actually a DIY i believe on audiworld.com
