Is 2.8 worht upgrading
Hey guys I was just wondering is it worht upgrading 2.8 for HP increase, I know ther is no chip to jump it 40-50 HP lke the 1.8T but still what are the mods that can be applied to a 2.8 ( talkin about everythin but a SC here), also is it possible to install the k04 turbo by yourself if you have moderate knowledge in cars ( is it an involved procedure)
All i am doin is gathering info on what car I should buy 1.8 T or 2.8. I would like it to run 13-14 on track if possible
Thanks
alot

Without going supercharger, you really can't make the 2.8 fast easily. I'm sure you could throw in titanium internals, up the compression ratio to 14:1, get cams that move the powerband way up, and have a 9500rpm 30v, but why would you? If you can't handle the supercharger, then just get a 1.8t, because you can install the k04 yourself if you have initiative.
heres a link that was in another post on mods for the 2.8 for mods ... its basically everything but a s/c

The 2.8 is a great engine, w/ the exception of the famous "dead spot" at low rpms. With the intake, exhaust, and chip, the "dead spot" is gone. it maked driving the car much more enjoyable.

The flat spot is a part between around 2k -4k, u can notice it pick up again after 4000 rpm. If u get rid of it u get a much smoother power band. It will be faster b/c more hp put out thru out the powerband but the peak hp wont change much. The chip raises it around 10-12 but i have heard the chip is amazing difference. (of course not like the one for the 1.8T)
without an s/c... i'd just go with the 1.8T
Not that you can't make the 2.8 fun... but it'll just take a lot of work. no more work than people do on every NA car except that most of your work will be custom, or with some heavy researching and patience
for the same money you'd be dropping into the 2.8 to take it to say... 250hp... you'd have a wicked 1.8T
