Default 2 CEL & Transmission Problem

I'm getting a P0422 and P0411 code. From searching here I've found that it's the Cat and Secondary Air.

It has an automatic transmission and the "manual" portion of it no longer works. I go up or down and the car keeps going in automatic mode. Could this be related to the P0411 code if a vacuum line is cracked?

How hard is it to replace the cat? I've done exhaust work on a full size pickup without problems.

Thanks

the transmission problem shouldn't be cuz of vacuum lines. it's probably the circuit thingy right under the shifter that's messed up. s for cat converter i couldn't rly tell u much. haven't needed to do dat much work on ma car yet

There is a magnet on the shifter that senses when you shift - most likely this came loose, no idea how to fix it

Agree with above regarding shift problem. There is a set of magnets that sense when the shifter has been put in tip mode. It frequently slips or falls off.

I am away from home so I can't look up codes. Will try later.

P0422 most likely means that your car is high mileage and your catalytic converter is shot and needs to be replaced..

for the other code:

Check combination valve. Repair Manual , 1.8 Liter 4-Cyl. 5V Turbo Engine Mechanical, Engine Code(s): AEB, ATW, Repair Group 26; Checking Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system - Check hose setup (Secondary Air Injection -AIR- solenoid valve); check intake system for leaks (false air)Check the vacuum hoses too.

I cleared the codes and P0432 showed up, which is Main Catalyst Below Threshold (Bank 2).

So now that I've gotten a bank 1 and bank 2 code for the Cat, I'm going to guess it's not a false code and the cat should just be replaced.

The car has 78k miles, but is a year over the 8year 80k mile emissions warranty.

Cant be bank 2. you have a 1.8T. There is no bank 2.

I can't double check the code number as I'm not at home

I just noticed it's a 2.8.

The car is a company car, so I'm not the daily driver on it.

Bank 2 is the other side oxygen sensor.
