2000 A4 1.8tq rear speaker Help!
Looking for some more help here. The driver's side amplified speaker is broken and I need to remove it. (non Bose)
1. Do I need to remove the rear shelf, or does the speker grill pop out if pried?
2. From what I can see, the shelf is held in by two plastic clips at the front, but there are also bolts for the 3 carseat clips that seem to be impossible to remove. I've tried turning them with pliers, but they may be rivited in place as well as screwed in.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, It seems like you might have a different rear deck than I do.
On mine when you fold down the seats, right under the lip of the deck there are 3 white plastic plugs. Basically all you need to do is push up on the lip of the deck and the plugs will pop right out (no wussy pushing though..you need a little elbow greese).
Before you push up on them though you're gonna want to unplug the center brake light. The plug is attached in a bitchy way. The part you want to remove is like a two fingured claw that grips the other piece on both sides. You need to pry off one of the sides to be able to pull the plug off the light (from the trunk).
Once you have the plug removed, push up on the front lip of the deck to pop off the deck. Now that the front of the deck is popped up, you'll need to slide the deck towards you a little to release two L-clips located deeper in the trunk. BE CAREFUL WHEN SLIDDING THE DECK FORWARD!!!! The L-clips are located in such a fashion as to hover over your unprotected speakers when the deck is being taken out. If you're not careful you could puncture your speakers..this goes for putting the deck back in too. I almost punctured one of mine and that would have been another $155 bucks for one more damn speaker!
On mine you DO NOT need to remove the seatbelt covers (contrary to what I read in many tutorials for my model). They are a complete P.I.T.A. to get back in and will just come off with the deck so there's no real reason for it. On your model you say you have 3 car seat clips up on the rear deck. Mine only has two. There could be other differences too so I'm not sure how well this little walkthrough will work for you.
Once you have the deck off, its pretty easy. You'll need a shorty screw driver to get the speaker pod out, and a star screw driver to get the speaker out of the pod.
As for the speaker I replaced..it was a stock bose speaker that ran me $155 for one damn speaker. I'm just glad I was able to figure out how to remove the deck so as not to pay the dealer here an insane amount of money for labor.
Hope that helps, Good luck with it all!
I'm out! Heading to the U.P. for some fun in the sun :P

Thanks for the help. I managed to get the shelf out.
It looks like the speaker is not salvagable. The speaker wire has separated from the coil wire. Anyone with a spare audi rear shelf speaker lying about that they don't need?
