2000 A4 a good buy?
Hey guys! I posted in the new member section, but after a little bit of thought, I wasn't sure how much traffic I'd get. I did want to introduce myself there, but figure I'll post in here also. Next spring/summer I'll be looking for a daily driver. I'm looking at a 2000 A4 right now, and gauging what sort of price range I should be looking at. The car in question is a 2000 A4 with 80k miles, Silver, 5spd Turbo w/ AWD. perfect int/ext., leather, moonroof, new clutch w/ warranty, all service records, Sport pkg, Climage pkg, $11,200. Is this a reasonable price to pay? Are those 18" wheels from the factory? Is the bolt pattern the same for all Audi's? How are they as far as reliability goes? How about aftermarket? Sorry for the overwhelming amount of questions, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, and love the site!

im not sure on the 2000's but I don't believe any b5 1.8T comes with leather. "Leatherette" or fake leather is what it is.
No, those are aftermarket wheels.
Test drive the car, and check everything.
Get matinenance records.
Not all audi have the same bolt pattern. Most have 5x112 ET 35MM offset.. but the AUdi TT's have 5x100 like most VW cars.
There is enough aftermarket parts for this car to keep you happing modding... for a long time...
Reliability? Its german and it has its qwerks... not as relaible as say a Toyota or Honda... but will last a while with good maintenace.
Cold Weather Package? Heated Seats????
11.2K doesnt seem that bad.. but I would offer him lower anyway... he may go lower.. say 10.5? you never know
Let me know if you have more questions

Awesome! Thanks for the replies! I wish I were in the market for one right now, as this one looks pretty sharp. I'll have my car paid off just after tax/bonus time, and will be looking for a newer daily driver. Right now the Contour is in storage for 6 months, and I've got my beater, a .................. ok we'll just say it's a beater! I like the styling of the Audi's, and with a 5spd turbo with AWD, I think I could see myself in one all year round. I'll definitely be back here come summertime!! Thanks again!

The car looks good. I just bought a '01 with 69k for $12k, which is about $3k under blue book value for the car(which is about $15,400). I've had it for almost a month now and I love it. It's a 1.8T Quattro and has all the service records. I wish I could have gotten a 5spd but my fiance needs to be able to drive it and she's not so good at the clutch. It's still great with the tip though it doesn't shift as fast as I wish it would(though you can fix that with a tranny ecu flash). I think the most important thing with these german cars is lots of preventative maintenance and research. Unless it's under warranty it's not the kind of car you just drive and don't worry about. You really need to know what's going on with the car and always keep an eye/ear open. These cars are incredible cars, but they're just not super reliable like a Honda or Toyota. But, they're much more enjoyable to own than 95% of japanese cars. I'd rather spend a little more on fixing a german car then have a boring japanese car I never had to spend a dime on.
I will say that if you get a A4 1.8T Quattro 5spd you will enjoy the hell out of it. Even with the tiptronic it's a ton of fun to drive and the quattro on top of the already awesome suspension makes it a blast around the corners. I'd say go for it, just make sure that whatever Audi you get has been well maintained, has all the records and if you can get it checked out by a reputable german shop to make sure there isn't anything big that's going to need to be replaced soon. If it's got 80k+ miles and hasn't had the timing belt changed yet then negotiate $500 off the price to make up for getting that done.
Good luck, hope you get yourself a nice Audi!
