Hey everybody, I'm considering a 1.8T a4 that I plan to tune a bit. Ive noticed that the 2000 A4's have 150hp stock and the 2001 A4's have 170hp stock. Also, the GIAC chip on the 2000's say that it gives an extra 40-50hp while the 2001 gives 30-38hp. I'm just wondering whats the difference between the stock motors? Is it how the stock chips are programmed or something more hardware dependent such as the turbo? Thanks ahead of time and if this is already posted I appologize im new to the forum.

I believe it is mainly the programming. yopu get basically trhe same power chipped, and most performance parts are exactally the same for both.

Ahh thanks for the speedy response. That's what I thought but I didn't want to get a 2000 over a 2001 if there was a major difference.

I like my chipped 2000

 

The 2001 A4 1.8t has a slightly different turbo that puts out a bit more boost, as well as variable valve timing. These mods increased output by ~20hp
