Default is the 2001 1.8t faster

whats faster? the 1997-2000 models or the 2001 with the 20 extra hp? I just wanna know if its worth it to get the 2001 instead of an older one. also how does the 2.8l compare in terms of acceleration and speed? I dont want to do a lot of modding but im thinking about eventually adding a chip, intake, and diverter valve. thanks

Same everything except 20 more hp so yes its slightly faster. But Id rather not have electronic throttle so Ill take the 20 hp loss and make up for it with a chip.

If you are asking which one is better b5 or b6. Most ppl here probably gonna say b5. Lots of b5 owners here. b5 is lighter so i think 20hp is not much of different.

^he didnt mean the b6 he meant the last year model of the b5 since it has more hp i believe its because of the upgraded boost?

No, its the same boost, but VVT was added in 2000(.5?). 2001.5 has k03 sport turbo istead of the standard k03.

Yeah 20 hp will be a half a car length or slightly more in the quarter. I never got to drive a 2001 a4 1.8t, but like I said Id rather have the 99.5 styling as well as the real throttle vs. electronic throttle. Plus I chip my 99.5 and chip a 2001 and the difference is pretty much gone.

APR and I believe GIAC claim higher power with the chip in the 2001 versus the 150HP 1.8Ts. And APR doesn't even list 93 octane for the non DBW cars. Are they just putting up false numbers or are they right?

And how do you know if you have the K03 Sport turbo?

I dont think there is a sport ko3. We covered this topic a few months back and i believe we determined that there is no such thing as a k03 sport but its just the variable valve timing (VVT) that bumps it 20 hp. 2001.5 are the b5s with 170 hp. 97-00 1.8T have 150hp.
