Default 2001 a4 tiptronic problem

Hi ,my recently bought tiptronic A4 shifts ok when driven lightly but if kicked down hard for urgent accelleration engine revs shoot up road speed doesn't increase and gearbox does not respond for about a fortnight!!(just like a slipping clutch on a manual) This is bloody dangerous and makes overtaking hazardous-especially as it will sometimes perform properly.Any ideas?

How many miles or KM on the car? Is it a B5 or B6 model?

You can always have someone check the transmission fluid level.

The B5 a$ has a very sluggish transmission. There is a tip chip available in the US that markedly shortens shift times.

Could live with standard shift time (1 second?) for the present if it consistantly achieved it but it doesn't.Which sensor activates the shift and is there any way of determining if it is faulty?

does the gears show up on the dash or does it only show the auto gears. I have the same problem but it only happens when the auto gear does not light up on the dash. have problems with reverse gear when this happens as well. trying to find what is causing it.

Yes all gear positions illuminated in both modes.Have no problems in reverse.Problem I have appears to be that the gearbox sometimes doesn't seem to know what the engine's doing & the engine doesn't know what the throttle's doing !!I don't think re-chipping is the answer

might be just the magnetic switch under the shifter cover that needs adjustment or replacement
