Default 2001 alarm issues, please help

Hi all

My alarm was going off intermittently ( and was driving me nuts ) without the lights flashing. Reading the other posts on the Site, it suggested my alarm siren backup batteries were going. I have since removed the siren ( enjoying a full nights sleep afterwards ) and bought a replacement. Unfortuately the replacement is not making a noise when i trigger the alarm. I noticed that when I arm the alarm, the led indicator flashes and then goes solid for approx 20 secs before arming the alarm. Couple of questions :

1. What error does the led staying on for 20secs indicate ?
2. Does the alarm system need to be reset/reprogrammed to know there is now a siren unit plugged in ? I dont have a Vag com system.
3. These problems all started after I replaced my battery, any reason why ?

Many thanks in advance for any help ....

Factory or aftermarket alarm system?

If it is aftermarket maybe you left off the wires going to the battery.

My car has the factory alarm fitted. The replacement siren is also an original part.

Anyone got any ideas what the car is telling me when the led alarm inidcator staying on for a while ?

The led indicator is usually on when the system is activated. There is some dumb *** law out there that states there must be a illuminated flashing red light to let prospective thieves know that you have a alarm system.(fuking liberal BS if you ask me).
Try locking & unlocking the car from the drivers door & see what happens. Also try disconnecting battery for several minutes & reconnecting it.
Good luck!

This sounds like part of what was happening with my car recently. It ended up being the Lock Control Module in the passenger side of the trunk. It had gotten wet and was causing problems with my alarm, locks, windows, lights and eventually draining the battery.
