Make sure to flush your system and get all of the air out and replace cooling temp sensor.
good point.

Much easier than a head gasket. Replace oil cooler , replace expansion tank & flush multiple times to get out as much crud as possible.
I will use oil absorbent towels in the expansion tank with the engine running to pick up as the oil floats to the top.

Also remember to get out as much oil as possible. Oil in the cooling system = shortened life of anything rubber in the cooling system.

Default audi a4 tihick coolant issues

hi, hope you can help.
just got my audi A4 through its MOT and service no problems. however the coolant is a light brown colour and fairly thick. The engine is running fine and unlike other peiple who seem to have a similar problem my car is not over heating. Is there an easy answer to getting the coolant back to normal viscosity or do i have a head gaskey problem. cheers fletch

Was it that color when you bought it?

If it was or you don't know I would start with a good flush as previous post said and refill with proper G12 coolant for audi.

If it stays pink then you are good, it was just old and was probably mixed with incorrect coolant.

If it was pink to begin with or gets oiled again after the flush and refill then I would start with the oil cooler as explained in previous posts of this thread.

Good luck.
