2003 A4 Battery Harness
Has anyone else had the same problem I have with my 2003 A4? The 2-yr old battery died, and upon taking it to the Audi dealer, I was told that it wasn't as simple as installing a new battery, that there was a corroded cable which would require replacing the cable harness. They had none in stock and would order one. Two days later, when the car was promised, I called and he said the part had not been located anywhere in the U.S., and that it would have to come from Germany. Now, as of yesterday, four days after bringing the car in, I'm told that I am on a waiting list for the part and "next in line". Looking at a week to ten days without my car. This is our fourth Audi, only 35,000 miles on it, and it has actually been our best, but none have ever had this problem, or been in the shop this long.
They diagnosed it. I don't have any reason to believe that this dealership would be trying to "sell me a bill of goods." They're giving me a 10% discount on the original quoted price, and I was given a loner car.
My 03' has 75k on the clock and has the original battery in it and no signs of any corrosion at the terminals or any issues with the electrical system other than occasionally I have to rev the car a little when I start it because the alternator telltale stays lit.
If they diagnosed it just let them replace it, i have found ground cables falling apart at the body connection but never really any corrosion. Im sure they have their reasons for having to replace it so let em.
There's no question regarding letting them replace it. My question is regarding whether anyone who has a 2003 A4 has ever had a similar experience. Apparently it's not a common enough occurrence that the part is readily available anywhere in the U.S. and there isa waiting list for it in Germany.
