2004 A4...3.0
Ill keep this simple guys...as most of you know, if you own this car it is not the fastest thing on the road. Does anyone on this board have one, and if so, what mods have you done to it?
I was thinking exhaust and intake, but do they make a chip for this car? Ive had limited luck finding anyone with ideas.....
Thanks....

i drive an 02 3.0 and love it. GIAC is currently working on a chip for it, some people say it is out, but i haven't found it anywhere.
Intake is okay, but wont' really do anything big because it'll be sucking the engine bay air. Exhaust would be good, i don't know any good ones for the 3.0 but some of the other guys probably do.
If you've got the money tho, go for the PES G3 supercharger, $5000, although i think it is on sale right now for 4500, you can find their site in the audi links post.
Get a K n N drop in and when that chip comes along you could see some gains up to around 6-8 hp.

Do you find that off the line your car is terribly slow? I find that ONLY at 3200RPM's is where this car produces any type of "thrust". I like the car....its stable, and great looking, but I need a little more punch. Ill look into the Supercharger, but I might just keep that $5K for an RS4 in a year or so.
What tires are you running? I have the 5 spoke rims with the Pirelli P6's that came with them. I do not like the Pirelli's at all. thinking of switching to Continental Extreme Contacts....??
Thoughts??
PS---Just FYI...I have the 6-speed.

The chip is out the local giac retailer has it here in Washington.
intake, exhaust, and chip will net you 12-18 hp. not a whole lot, your running a n/a motor.
You can do a 50 wet shot of nitrous. There are a few around who do, they tend to stay quite as some of the members here are asshats about nitrous only being for ricers.
The pes system puts down 320 chp, and 268 ctorque. that translates to about 256whp and 213 wtorque. Winslow at PES thinks with intake and The new thermal exhaust that thermal made specifically for the g3 they can hit 350 chp witch would put you at 270-275 whp.
The g3 is the eaton roots e-62 supercharger, it hits 10 psi at full boost, This is the safe long term functioning limit PES has found on the 2.8/3.0 30v engines. Winslow says if you want to go higher with the G3 you'll need to beef up the bottom end. As for the top end their testing shows the g2/g3 actually benefits from all of the turbulence increasing the mixture of the compressed air and fuel. Which gives better ignitions. The g3 is their third supercharger for the 2.8/3.0 30v, it started with teh g1, then the g2, and the final version of the g3 for the 3.0 30v.
Headers run around 1100 for the 2.8/3.0 if you can find them. I did once but lost the link. Pes tested the headers on the G2 and saw a gain of 8-10 hp... for 1100 plus one hellatious install it was a bit of a stretch.
3.0 king has a g3 with intake and supersprint exhaust and shows 335 chp. That puts him at s4 power with 3.0 gas mileage and about 5k less new. Out of the g2's and g1's there are some that are in the 60k to 90k in mileage, is this the standard yeah I believe so. the e-62 is a near bullet proof s/c not nearly as high strung as a big turbo kit for the 1.8t's. If your looking for near instant boost, with s4 power, but the gas savings of a 3.0. This will fit the bill.
When i asked winslow about speed comparisons he said the g3 will beat a chipped and exhaust 4.2 s4, and a chipped 996 will need a long long road to actually take the g3, and it finally does at 6th gear and about 6k in rpm.

These two dyno's are from a 3.0a4 quattro. so the numbers are quattro WHP numbers. multiply them by 1.21/1.22 some where in there to get your numbers at the crank.
Several guys with the g3 make more than the advertiesed 320. 3.0king makes 335 with stratospher cai and supersprint exhaust.
Last i talked with winslow he was thinking that the new thermal exhause speciffically made for the g3 could possibly bring it up to about 350 chp. which would translate into 273 whp on a quattro a4.
I asked about
port and polish, headers, manifold extrude and hone, 50 hp shot of nitros... your best of hearing his answers directly from him.
anywho, I hope that helps.
this is a dyno on the g2 done on a fwd passat 2.8 this will give you a comparison of the hp loss due to quattro around 9% drive train loss.

yea, the power is always there for sure tho that's what i like about it. IMO i really enjoy the n/a engine, i just like the free flowing feeling of it.
As far as tires, i also hav the stock tires with the 5 spoke alloys, once i get my car back tho, tomorrow hopefully !!! (got in a crash), i'm getting nokian all-weathers for winter driving and the in the spring 18inch ASA AR1s, but i'm not sure what tires for them, anyone know some good 18inch summer tires that are decently priced?
- great post Grouse, really informative [sm=smiley20.gif]!

i have dunlop s1's i posted a pic here not to long ago. They came with my usp. sofar i really enjoy them.
@CBN i tagged this so i can just copy and pasted. I think i answer this 3-50000000000 times a week.
But hey 1.5 months ago i asked the same thing... and got no info.
There are mods out there, and for a more reliable system than a big turbo kit. 5 g's is not bad.

All donations for my supercharger, in lieu of the great info compiled and presented in one easy place for you, can go to my paypal account of mr_rgrouse@msn.com thanks.
