2008 A4 3.2 36kmiles burning too much oil!!
I bought an off lease 2008 this year to replace my 1997 A4 2.8 which I had zero problems with in the 13 years I owned it. The 97 was an absolutely terrific car, and I really do mean that. Thats why I bought another Audi. My 97 had no issues with burning excessive amounts of oil, no low oil warnings, nothing. It was the 2.8L v6. When I sold it, it had 146k miles on it and looked almost as good as the day I bought it. Now, fast forward to the new Audi I bought. In the 6 months I've had this "new" A4 3.2l, the low oil warning light has come on within 2 weeks after each dealer oil change. My own tracking shows that it appears to be burning oil at a rate of approx. 2 quarts every 1200-1400 miles which is absolutely ridiculous in my book. Low and behold I start doing some internet research because my dealership in the Philly area is telling me this rate of consumption is "normal". Never in my life have I had to add oil to a modern car between oil changes. After reading pages and pages of complaints about this problem I am starting to get sick to my stomach that perhaps I'm stuck with a lemon and a problem Audi will neither acknowledge as a problem, nor will do anything to permittantly fix it. I just called them and let them know my concern and they have agreed to setup an oil consumption test, but I am looking for similiar experiences with recommendations on how to protect myself. Does this only end badly? Am I screwed? Thoughtful answers please. I am willing to stick with it if this known issue is fixable because I love the ride of the car, but at the same time, not going to risk a more serious problem after the warranty expires.
