Default 225 tires on stock rims

Currently I'm on stock 10 spoke sport rims, I was going to get rs4's and new tires but i'd have to get worse tires than I wanted so i'm going to spend money on performance instead. How do 225x50x16 fit on the stock rims. According to a tire size calculator they will need to be 50 sidewall not 55 to be the same diameter. Does 225 fit on 7" rims w/o looking stupid? If not whats the widest tire that will fit on 7" and look good. I've done searches before but didn't remember finding the answer. Sorry if I'm having a noob moment.
