What is "mode"?
If youre looking for something to modify in the $7-$8k range, pick up a 97-99.5 B5 1.8T and go crazy.

My 2 cents...for what it's worth. Find a nice E46 for about that price range. You won't regret it. There are plenty of mods out there for them. As you can see from my sig, I own an E46 and an A4. Honestly, I like the E46 better. The Audi is much more plush and luxurious, and that's great. The BMW feels more like an overt sports sedan. The Audi floats around on it's suspension like it's a Cadillac, while the BMW feels more planted. Also, feedback from the wheel is just numb in the Audi. I like rear wheel drive better than the quattro as well, but that's just my opinion. I'd prefer controlled oversteer to understeer anyday.

All this to say, after owning my A4 for a little while, I think I'm going to stick with plans of building a proper race car out of my E46 and let my wife drive the A4. Who knows. Should I come into a large sum of money, maybe I'll custom fab a big supercharger setup onto it. Until that happens, my E46 feels like a better driving machine, so I'll try milking power out of it for now.

*edit* Perhaps this would have been better placed in it's own thread about my initial impressions of my recently acquired A4.

Should you consider a 3 series, be aware of the rear subframe issues. The points where the rear subframe bolts up to the chassis has been known to fail due to fatigue, especially in modded cars. This applies to the E36, E46, and Z3/Z8 cars.

you want a nice car to mod...... and that one has all it can have done to it......so you are not really looking to mod a car....... but still want a nice safe car for your son about 8 grand...... look here, i know it isn't in san antonio, but if i was in the market for one, i would drive to at least look at this, and you are an audi guy already
