Default 2nd gear grinding

On very cold mornings when I start the car (99.5 A41.8TQM)I find whenever I shift down into second I hear/feel the gears grind for a second until it locks in. Now its not a hardcore grindingbut its enough that I feel after so long, itsgot to cause some sort of damage. It only happens for the first few (2-4) shifts into second, then the car starts to warm up and it goes away. Seems to me it has to do with the metal/steel contracting in cold weather overnight. It only happens in second every other gear is fine..
Do you think i should be conscerned? Should i take it to the dealership/mechanic or is there anything i can do myself to see what affect if any its causing?

EDIT: Some mornings I've tried shifting at low and higher rpms making sure I fully push the clutch inall the waybut it still happens every time

Try putting some GM synchromesh in your trans. It smoothed out my 1-2 shift a lot.

We just had our TT tranny rebuilt when the 2nd gear sychros went. We were able to remove the tranny ourselves because we were doing other mods.... and it saved a lot of money. We delivered it straight to the tranny shop. That is the route we took. We wanted the tranny rebuilt anyway...

My buddy did drive his for a while with the problem. Just shift to 3rd from 1st lol.

Is there a cheaper fix guys?

Try changing the fluid before drawing worse conclusions.
