This sounds like a BAD idea unless you were born with a Audi birth mark and a wrench in your hand! I would NOT recommend doing this!
But im not your mother.....So do what you want!
Why? Have you attempted it?

It just sounds bad. Motor swaps tend to not always be the easiet things to do unless the new motor, fits perfect and will fit on the tranny it just sounds like to much work maybe if it was your second car. The amount of time and money you will put into it you will never get back!

But like i said im not your mother!

because my engines guna go eventualy.
12v's are extremely reliable. If taken care of, theyll go 200k+ miles easy. But yeah, all engines die eventually. Do a compresion test before you get into any big *** projects if youre only wanting to replace the engine because you think it has little life left in it.

long life is correct, my 12v is almost 196K and still running like a champ.

why o why would you ever do this? My oppinion is that it's such a waste. Just buy a used 2.8. Be much better then trying too deal with all that b/s. Even if you somehow do manage too get it alltogether something is bound to go wrong and it wont be fun to fix.

why is somthing BOUND to go wrong? 30v and 12v engines are very much alike. i found out its an even swap as long as you have the fuel lines ecu, and a few other goodies found on normal 30v engines.

please dont give an opinion when you dont know what your talking about. and why would spending another 3 grand on a used 2.8 be better? having my car laid up for a few days is much better then droping a few grand so i could have two audis in there golden years.

i would assume it can be done not sure about the cost, only reason i say this is because while i was looking for a car i found 1996 but in the pics i noitced a 30v motor, i inquired about the only thing the guy said was it ran nicely and it had a newer motor put, come on in for a test drive.only reason i didnt get it was because it was auto without tip, that and my parents wouldnt let me a buddy road trip out o NY for a car.

yeah i read about someoneputting a 30v into a2.6l 12v. which are very similar engines. So I'm very sure its possible and not extremely difficult.

I'm pretty excited to get this project underway.

you might as well swap in a 1.8T. it'll hook up to the 2.8 tranny and it'll be about the same amount of work as putting in a 30v would, but now you can actually mod. and the 2.8's taller gears are sick with the right turbo set-up.

but honestly i tihnk your engine has plenty life left. i say save up some money and buy a new car. this project will probly set you back quite a bit
