I always say if you wanted to save a couple bucks and skimp on something.... shoulda bought a honda
except civic prices are skyrocketting... I was looking at 98 civics going anywhere from 6-10g (in good condition)

I was running 87 octane for a while and decided to run 91 octane. With the 87 it would kind of skip when accelerating, like ti wasnt real smooth, its hard to explain but yea. Now with 91 octane I dont feel that.

why even risk it? i only put 93 octane v-power in mine. gas just dropped like 70 cents a gallon anyways. will your car run with 89. ya. will you see any immeadiate side effects. doubtful. but down the road if you keep putting it in you'll most likely have more problems. audi's def aint the cars to skimp **** on

I love these threads... the car will run, period. It won't damage anything either because of a nifty thing called a knock sensor, but your timing well be retarded in order to compensate for the lower octane. You can run it, but you won't have as much power.

Seriously! I've always run 87 octane in my car, I've never bothered with anything higher because the car dosen't knock on the 87. Higher octane gas isn't 'better' or 'cleaner' it just has a higher octane value. Anyone here a mechanic??? I'm a combustion technician, I know what I"m talking about. Loss of power hahahahaha LMFAO silly silly people.

Owner's manual says 89 octane recommended but minimum 87 okay. Unless it knocks with 87, I'll save my money.

Note: I've got 230,000 km on my A4 without a single engine problem ever. I'm the worst for maintenance, rarely change the oil, never changed spark plugs, rarely change the air filter.... the engine is more durable then any other engine I've ever had. Why baby the car, it's only a car!

Turbo engines really like higher octane, thats why they can put better numbers up with higher octane (depending if they have the right tune). On an NA audi it is possible that the timing may be retarded because of the lower octane, but I doubt anyone here has ever logged that on their cars.

Why baby it? Well plenty here have lots invested in their cars. A lot of them go with premium and thats ok with me. They don't want to have their car break down and if some believe it will with 87 then fine, let them get premium. Personally with my car I need it to run, but I've been good on maintenance to it. I haven't noticed any difference on my car using 87, 89.5 ethanol blend and 93 ethanol blend, except for fuel mileage. Ethanol blends here in Iowa kill it, and it actually costs more to use ethanol then regular gas here, even though our prices per gallon are cheaper with ethanol.

I just want someone to post facts here, PROOF if you will that 87 will **** sometihng up. Everyone says do whats in the manual, but how many of you do whats in the manual when something goes wrong? Take it to your audi dealer? HAHAHA, right....

^thats because you're not chipped and you're mad slooooow. can't wait for your t-belt to go Mr. Combustion Technician. don't try saving a few dollars by putting cheap gas in your $30K Audi. I smack people who use 87.

I set fire to the homes of the families of people who use 87 oct. with Shell V-Power 93 Oct. siphoned straight from my gas tank.
