96 A4 2.8 stereo problems
Ok. I have the bose delta system in my 96 A4 2.8. I have no front speakers and no front tweaters (what I mean is they are not working). The only working speakers are the rear two, and they only work for less than 1 minute and then they fizzle out for 2 seconds and then I hear nothing until I turn radio off for like 5 minutes. What is wrong? Is it just the amp in the rear. Does the amp in the rear controll all six speakers? Could HU be shot as well as the rear amp? Please help as I don't have lots of $$$ to bring it to audi or a radio shop. thanks
no the amp in the rear only controls the two rear-deck speakers. Your radio is going caput. Time to buy a replacement. You can get them on ebay for like 20 bucks. Just make damn sure they come with the code to unlock it.

The amplifier is located in trunk and looks like this:

I think the problem could be the amplifier in the trunk.
HA!
I just visited a Circuit City last night to purchase and install my panasonic in-dash cd. I was exremely skeptical that it was not going to work, due to the fact that i have had enough issues with the radio as it is.
But Voila... Upon plug in, it worked beautifully. I bought the car being told the radio had to be unlocked, and come to find out, it was non-functioning. Anyway, the speakers are amazing in the car! Circus City (yeah, circus!) told me that with the amp, the radio might not work without a rewiring.
OK, so if you go the aftermarket route, make sure you call ahead to verify that they have the install kits and antenna adapters in stock. I was told that they didnt have it, and it would take a week. So, the guy told me to go to Tweeter (formerly United Audio) and buy it there.
IT WORKS GREAT!!!
Good luck with figuring out your speakers!!!

Ok, I brought it to a local car stereo shop to get a free diagnostic done. They said it was just my radio. I bought a radio from a salvage yard for 75 bucks and am going to audi today to get the codes. There is something funny though, in the back, behind the carpeting in the driverside of the trunk, there are two ports(plugs) just loosely hanging there, one is round, which is for the cd changer, and the other is a 25 pin rectangular female port. Like an old serial port on a computer. Is this where an amp should go???? The shop tested my system and every speaker is hooked up and working. So is the stock amp optional - meaning it will work with or without???
