Ok my car just recently started making a slight knocking noise, but it doesnt seem to get louder when I am driving. I took it to a local BMW certified mechanic and he listened to it and said it possibley is the oil pump chain, has anyone ever had problems with that coming loose. Also could the timing belt be loose at all. Also the knocking seemed like it is coming from higher up on the motor like around the intake manifold. Need help ASAP! one more thing the car seems to be runing fine just the knocking.

Could be your timing belt... How many miles does it have and when was the was changed last? Also why did you take an Audi to a BMW mechanic? Just wondering.

the car has 88,000 miles on it, also he it the only one closes to where I live to work on them, the shop only works on European cars. Does the motor make noise when the timing belt is goin bad? also when I checked the oil there was no metal flakes or anything in there.

 

If your timing is off a little it can make a slight clicking noise. Also valve train noise is not uncommon for our cars. And it sounds like you have not had your TB changed yet (if I read that right) so I would do that ASAP!!!!

Ok so change the timing belt and then see what happens? Also I did have tranny problems last year my girlfriend drove the car through a flooded street and after that the car wouldnt go into drive. So I had a diagnostic ran on it and it came thetransmission speed sensor went. So I replaced that and still had the same problem, but as the weather got warmer the tranny seemed to come back. But is still running in limp mode. Also what do you reccomend I all do besides the timing belt?

 

well along with the timing belt there is the water pump, tensionor, thermostat. and i thinkg thats about it. look on 12v.org for more info. thats sites helped me with my car alot. also ive heard as these cars get older they need thicker oil and what you might be hearing is just the lifters. also are you sure its just not the injectors going. compared to most cars ive driver the injectors on my 12v are loud.

 

well the kid that owned the car before me ran 89 fuel in it wich messed it all up he ended up replacing the whole fuel system and ever since I owned the car I have ran nothing but 91 or higher octane. The noise sounds like its come from the back of the motor and kinda high up.

 

running 89 fuel in the car won't hurt ****... been doing it for 30k in mine... I do take good care of my fuel system though

Get that timing belt replaced!

 

could the pulley for the timing belt wear out to? Sorry for so many questions but I am new to this whole audi thing.
