Default 97 A4

I am looking at purchasing a 97 A4 2.8 Quattro 5spd. I have never owned an Audi and was wanting to know the pros and cons of this specific car. The only modifications I really want to do is get a chip, lower it and put 19's on it. Any comments and suggestions to help me out would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The 97 A4 2.8 12v is the most relible engine out the for the A4's but for modifaction wise there isn't much out there no one has a chip for the 12v 2.8 and if you are going to lower it i'm not to sure but 19" might rub so just be carful when doing this

Thanks for the help. The guy I am buying the car from told me that they do make a chip, so I guess thats out now. If not 19's then I will just stick with 18's. What type of springs work best to lower it a few inches.

I have 18" on my A4 with eibach sportline springs and the car sits just above the wheels I like the look myself i'm not looking to tuck or anything also to save yourself some labour i sudjest you change the shocks when doing springs because the stock shock will wear out within 3 months of the lowering springs being in

There is no chip for this car! The way the hitachi chip in the ECU is set up, it can not be altered. He's full of bull!

i have a 97 12v. there is no chip or supercharger. only boring out everything and internal parts to gain hp. you can check out here for all info on the 12v engine. you could put 19 on if you roll your fenders i would stick with 18 or 17 because the car is already a snail. when you install you springs have them look at the control arms to see if they need to be replaced ( just to save on labor)

good luck

Going by what you guys are telling me I am not sure I even want to buy the 97 now. Maybe I will wait and get a newer A4.

Thanks for all the feedback.
