Default 97 A4 Quattro

I had a noise coming from the rear of my car. I jacked up the rear and found a welded subframe piece that connects the anti roll bar to the suspension links had broken off. The other was cracked also. Apparently this happens as Neuspeed sells a brace for their rear anti roll bar kit and a note to inspect for cracks. No recalls from Audi that I'm aware of. This is a case of a bad design that should have never broken if properly designed. I use the car for commuting only and have owned it since it was new. Bottom line is $1200 for a new subframe plus the labor. Inspect your B5 rear at the single bolt attachment point. My rating of Audi quality has just dropped down a notch.

Sorry to hear that.

It doesn't seem to be a common problem.

Why dont you have new ones welded back on?
