Default 98 1.8T problem?

I just noticed recently everytime i left off the gas pedal while im driving it feels like the engine kicks back or something(like i tapped on the brake or something, it slows down and makes a noise) im not sure how to explain it. It might be a misfire? i not sure at all. Again im not well educated in cars. I was wondering what you guys thought?
Thank you!

I'm not the right person to answer your question, but I know what you're talking about. It happens in my '99 1.8T .. IMO it kinda feels cool and it feels natural--that's all I got for you.

Do you have a 5 speed? If so, it's supposed to do that. There are many good techniques that involve downshifting. Big trucks use that too...it's called engine braking. You must be new to driving .

explain this "braking" like the car literally slows down, or it just feels like the motor is jerking....a misfire i doubt would do this...you'd just have a gnarly idle/engine shaking.

yea, that "slowing down" effect can be tricky, be careful, or u might actually come to a stop...

get a sub mount, and dts, that will solve ur problem...

Theres the answer. If let off the gas with a 5 speed, it will still be in gear and the engine will "brake" and sometimes knock at certain rpm's. You're completely okay. Sound like a new driver, no problem .

knock? no way. unless your car is broken.

there is nothing wrong with your car, it is the nature of the beast
