'99 A4 1.8 Turbo Avant - Starting Problems
My son has a 1999 1.4 Turbo Avant with about 115k miles on it. Has been well maintained (purchased from an Audi Mechanic). He has had the car nearly a year and has run flawlessly (until now). A month or so ago, he was driving away from a stop light engaged the clutch to shift and the car basically died, would not re-start. We pushed it to the parking lot and left over night - the next moring the car started. Took it to the mechanic, he couldn't locate the trouble, changed the fuel pump. Same situation about two weeks ago, drove the car, let sit for an hour or two and wouldn't start, next day started drove to mechanic. After four days he couldn't get it to repeat what happened. Changed the "pick up coil"? and fuel sender. Yesterday, ditto, drove the car to practice (20 miles away) sat for about 2 hours - wouldn't start. After trying to start 2-3 times let set for 15 minutes and it started. Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be????. No trouble light is showing up. The only thing consistent is that it seems to do this after the car has been driven for a while (and of course not all the time). Driving me (and him crazy), plus one of these days its going to hang him out to dry in a bad place at a bad time.
