99 A6 2.8 problem
Timing belt broke a few days ago, car shut off like you turned the key off, no noises. Engine still turned over with starter, wouldn't start but no noises. Wanted to know if when this happens will the piston hit the valves resulting in bent valves and damage to the head and pistons or is this a "non conflict" type engine? Local shop (not dealer) says that heads are ruined( did not remove heads to inspect) and says that cams are locked up. If I put a new timing belt on and set the timing, should it start and be ok? Anyone have any info/ knowledge they can share will be greatly appreciated.
Hi squid121, welcome to the forum. Yes Audi's have interferance engines. If the timing belt snaps, the the valves will come in contact with the cylinders. I'm sure they are toasted.
