Default A4 1.8T Quattro - What to look for?

I'm looking for a 99-00 A4 1.8T Quattro. Are there any problem areas I should be concerned with when evaluating used vehicles? I'm new to the Audi world and would like some of your expertise.

I read a few posts about the timing belt class action. What years were affected? Was there a recall?

Thanks in advance from the newest rookie on the block!

search for "common problems" and it will yield plenty of information.

my 2 cents: always have an "expert" with you to check out any car you buy, you would think everyone does this, but shockingly this is not the case. people who work with cars 24/7 are gonna be able to diagnose any problems right away.

miked Thanks for the info. I found a ton of information with the "common problems" search.

Fiedly I'm no expert but appreciate the advice. I've built and restored 3 vintage Mustangs (engine, tranny, interior, paint, body, suspension, brakes, etc.) and personally installed 3 different suspensions on my old 99 Cobra. I basically wanted to know the problem areas to focus on so I can be a better informed buyer. Thanks!
